And their memories Gabe Newell is a character in the videogame industry at large, as you know, being one of the leading minds behind the projects of Valve, so it is interesting to note what are the games that have scored more than others his experience as simulations. In part one, the choices made by Newell reserve some surprises.
His favorite games are in fact: Trek, Doom and Mario 64. The first was a kind of program for a computer mainframe to perforated cards that "could hardly be called play." The future game designer was using at the time of high school and liked to produce the cards and putting them on the computer like a game of attack and defense with his brother: "Every step took about 10 minutes, I was fascinated." Doom was the game that completely changed the ideas of Newell on video games, on their way to be designed and developed on their own importance in terms of entertainment.
Mario 64 instead, a little 'surprise, still represents the "absolute favorite game," Valve man, a title which "controls are still unsurpassed," and that Newell believes that "video games are art." Source: CVG
