Strong growth in the market for Android handset

36% in the hands of the androids Sales figures released by Gartner shows an exponential growth of Android devices in the first quarter of fiscal 2011, which led to the passing of the IOS operating system on a percentage of market presence. Android wins then the 36.0% market share, followed by Symbian to 27.4% and 16.8% for IOS with respect to the first quarter of 2011 in the world of smartphones and other portable communication devices.

Decidedly modest performance with Microsoft Windows Phone, launched in late 2010 but only 1.6 million units sold in the first quarter of 2011, with the market share relating to iOS 3.6%, down from 6.8% of the same period last year. With regard to sales for individual brands, in the first place we find Nokia, followed by Samsung, LG and then Apple, which also increases by more than double its sales in the global market.

In all, 428 million communication devices were sold in the first quarter of 2011, an increase of 19 percentage points over the same period last year. Source: Gartner. com
