Sony unveils Xperia Play

Sony has finally officially announced the PlayStation Phone, or Play Xperia Sony Ericsson's first smartphone with the PlayStation brand. Xperia Play will be compatible with PlayStation content of the service suites and propose a d-pad, two analog touch pad, two buttons and the four ridges of the classic PlayStation controller buttons: Circle, Square, X and triangle.

The PlayStation Phone is equipped with a 1GHz processor and Qualcomm's Snapdragon an integrated GPU Adreno gameplay that will allow for a "fluid" at 60fps and surf the web with consumption of "minimum". The device is based on Gingerbread (Android 2.3) also includes a 5 megapixel camera and a four-inch touch screen.

Among the games announced for Xperia include Play Need for Speed, Sims 3, FIFA 10, Guitar Hero, Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell Sony Ericsson promises "a continuous flow of quality 3D games." Pre-installed application will allow users to "discover and download" games optimized for Xperia Play, access to assets used recently to obtain information about downloaded games.

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai said he was pleased to launch Xperia Play, "the first smartphone PlayStation certificate to enter the market," able to give consumers "a unique offering." Play Xperia will be available in certain markets "selected" from March.
