Fusion technology for the next models of PlayStation and Xbox?

The integrated solutions are the future for AMD in an interview with X-bit labs, Neal Robison, AMD talked about the Fusion technology and its potential applications in next-generation home consoles. According to Robison, an integrated solution such as that offered by AMD to enable developers to leverage the technical capabilities of any new models of PlayStation and Xbox, especially considering the typical life cycle of these platforms.

When it was pointed out that traditionally do not use the console on x86-based processors, Robison gave the example of the first Xbox, capable of excellent performance for its time and has a processor of that type. The speech in fact relates more about the tools available that architecture is not used.

In the case of PlayStation 3, the use of a Cell processor has allowed Sony to avoid the addition of a separate GPU, and this process ultimately had a good impact in terms of performance, at least at first. Finally, X-bit labs took into account the price factor, asking Robinson if a solution like Fusion models for the next PlayStation and Xbox would be accessible from the economic point of view while maintaining performance to expectations.

The representative said that AMD's Fusion technology provides excellent scalability up and down, and thus may lend itself to many different uses, including use for the next generation of home consoles. Source: X-bit labs
