After countless rumors that have chased a few days ago, SEGA has officially announced Sonic Generations for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It will be a hybrid of the classic 2D platform game in the series and the latest 3D outputs. The plot sees Sonic sucked into the mysterious "temporal holes" which lead him back until he himself met with the early releases.
The two clones must join forces to discover who is behind these mysterious phenomena. Both versions of Sonic will use their historical techniques: the Spin Attack and Spin Dash to the classic version, the Homing Attack and Sonic Boost for modern times. In order to properly celebrate the 20th anniversary of its mascot, Sega has set the release of the game by the end of 2011.
"Sonic Generations celebrate the best the two decades of this historic character," said brand director David Corless. "One game to bring to life the last twenty years of the porcupine's most famous story in new ways and unpredictable."
