Sony: "Credit cards encrypted"

In an FAQ published on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has said that credit card numbers were encrypted user, and instead acknowledged that the personal data of users were protected but not encrypted. "All the data were protected and access was restricted, both physically and through the perimeter and network security.

The whole table was encrypted credit card and there is no evidence that they have been stolen credit card data . The table of personal data, which is a different set of data was not encrypted, but it was obviously placed behind a very sophisticated security system that was breached by a malicious attack, "it said.

As far as credit card data, Sony said: "Despite all the credit card information stored in our systems are encrypted and there is no evidence at present that have been stolen credit card data, we can not esclusdere this possibility. If you have provided the details of your credit card through PlayStation Network or Qriocity to be very careful we warn that the number (not security code) and the expiry date of your credit card may have been acquired.

Keep in mind, however, that the security code of your credit card (sometimes called a CVC or CSC) has not been acquired because we never asked for any writing or Qriocity PlayStation Network, and therefore is not present in our system. "" For your safety, we encourage you to be especially vigilant against e-mail, phone calls and letters scams asking for personal information or sensitive.

Sony will contact you in any way, either by email, asking the credit card number or other information that can bring to your personal identity. If you are asked such information, you can rest assured that Sony is not the subject applicant. When Qriocity services PlayStation Network and will be fully restored, we strongly recommend you log in and change your password.

Also, if you use your username or password or Qriocity PlayStation Network accounts or for other services not related, we recommend that you change them the same way. To protect yourself from possible identity theft or other potential financial losses, we encourage you to remain vigilant, monitor your account statements and monitor your bank transactions.

" And those responsible for the intrusion? "We are currently conducting a thorough investigation of the situation and are working closely with a well-known expert in security technologies in order to identify those responsible for this criminal act, no matter where you are in the world," says Sony.
