Iwata defends sales of the Wii

After a year in fall, the console has had a revival Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, has defended his company's achievements despite a fall in profits by 74% over the previous year. By analyzing the difficulties of the entire hardware industry over the past nine months, Iwata explained to investors that "few people in the industry would have predicted that the Wii would have regained its thrust at the end of the year." "In the second half of December, the Wii has sold twice as much as PlayStation 3," he continued, referring to the Japanese market.

The results in the U.S. were similar, however: although sales are not returned to the records of 2009, "Wii has sold more than 2.35 million units in December 2010, a better result than in 2008, when the console was selling very well" .
