The creator of the indie game Minecraft revealed receipts generated from the original project for the PC. In an interview with Reddit Ask Me Anything thread spotted by Gamasutra, Markus 'Notch' Persson said Minecraft has been downloaded 800,000 times the price of € 9.95 in the alpha stage. During the beta the price rose to € 14.95 and has reached one million downloads, for a total of about 23 million €.
"It ends around somewhere, in some accounts," said Persson. "I try not to look. I take a regular salary but somewhere there's a lot 'of grain. Paypal takes a slice, there are taxes and so on, but it is still a good sum of money." Persson also spoke about the strategy that led to the publication of a game still in development: "This model makes sense for any kind of game, but in future I'd like to do the same things.
Develop the dark is probably wrong."
