Cryptic Studios has announced that its MMO Champions Online will become free-to-play from January 25. From the date indicated will be possible to download the game for free and develop the character to superhero status. The micro-transactions will come into play with extra packages of adventure, objects, powers and costumes.For 14.99 dollars a month (the price in Europe should follow the same line) you can buy the Gold membership will allow access to all premium content. Launched in 2009, Champions Online has not met all the expectations of Cryptic, the MMO that hopes to revive that model by adopting free-to-play online games has already been revitalized over the past several months.
If the experiment were to be successful, Cryptic could adopt the same model for Star Trek Online, as stated in the Videogame Source airline's boss, Jack Emmert, some time ago.
