During an interview backstage at the BAFTA Awards Spong who have seen Heavy Rain gain recognition in the categories innovation, technology, history and music, David Cage talked about his next project. "We created the genre," says Cage, referring to interactive stories like Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain. "We have control of the genre and want to show that Heavy Rain was not a fluke, but more that we can build on the foundations laid by us." "At the same time I did not want to do a sequel, and I had already made it clear before we know if Heavy Rain would be a success or not.
I want to prove that this is a genre, which means that you can use a similar structure to tell any story of any kind and any style. " "We will expand the concept by exploring other directions. The game will still be very dark, it will be for adults, but quite different from Heavy Rain. We want to please our fans but we also want to surprise them.
This is our challenge."
