As reported by SlashGear, a mod of Kinect called NAVI (Navigational Aids for the Visually Impaired) made by students at the University of Constance allows the blind to use Kinect to orient in the environment. The two students, Michael Stephan Zöllner and Huber, Kinect have linked to a helmet that sends data to a laptop connected to a Bluetooth headset and a vibrotactile belt.
Thanks to the camera Kinect, the equipment allows the user to know the location of obstacles on the ground through a series of auditory and tactile alerts. Here is a movie in the operation of ships.
