According to Sony, support for 3G networks will be a selling point of the Next Generation Portable, but Nintendo, the need to pay a monthly subscription for the service might to deter many consumers from purchasing the new handheld console from Sony. As reported a few weeks ago, Sony plans to launch 3G and 3G versions of NGP.
The company has admitted that Japan's 3G service users will incur some additional costs. In an interview published by the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun (translation Andriasang), the boss of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, said that a monthly subscription for the use of 3G could reduce the catchment area of the platform.
Iwata reiterated the importance of the supply of software with unique features in a market where several companies, including Apple no doubt, are acting aggressively. Meanwhile, 3DS has debutatto in Japan with 400,000 units sold over the weekend. In Europe the new handheld console from Nintendo will celebrate March 25.
"The DS has been used by more than 300 million people," said Iwata. "We want to exceed these numbers with 3DS," says Nintendo boss before implying that the Japanese company is already working on a Mario game for the platform.
