Analysts skeptical of NGP

The announcement of the new handheld console, Sony has unleashed the skepticism of some analysts, according to which Next Generation Portable would not have the characteristics suitable to establish itself in a mass market. "NGP has a great line-up but it is difficult to impose in a mass market", Case of Capital Markets, Colin Sebastian (via IndustryGamers).

"It clearly distinguishes it from casual games to iPhone but the mass market may not be room for high-end portable gaming. At the time of his debut offering PSP-quality graphics, but sales were below expectations." According to Mike Hickey of Janco Partners, despite a convincing hardware NGP may face considerable difficulties in establishing itself on the market: NGP will find tough competition in a market that includes smartphones, tablet and 3DS of Nintendo.

" "PSP and PSP Go failed to involve consumers of portable games, and in our opinion NGP is the evolution of the console, not a revolution. The mobile gaming market has shifted much of the interpretation given by Sony to this segment, and we do not know if NGP is able to obtain a part of this market.

" Instead of the more positive opinion of Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan: "The device is impressive. It has many interesting features and Sony has a library of amazing content. The console looks very powerful and sophisticated games would not surprise me to see, in addition the 3G and the relationship with many Android applications to Android will also arrive on the console.

"" I think going incredibly well the first year (about 15 million bet on units) and then, depending on the software, will be successful or will slow down as they did with PSP. I think this is a big step forward compared to PSP and distribution of games on the memory card is a smart choice.
