But no Mac version on the horizon James Salt, senior producer of Battlefield Play4Free said during GDC 2011 that the closed beta of the game could count on 600 thousand participants, although clearly not all online at once. He also explained that for this enormous contribution to the development team decided to start the open beta since April, unevenly, to avoid a one day full of players that can cause crashes.
When he was asked if he expected a Mac version of their new free-to-play, Salt said the game uses the fifth generation of Engine Battlefield, which was designed for PC. So even if a Mac version in the pipeline, the conversion and ongoing updates require the commitment of a separate team, which is currently out of the question.
