In a Q & A sent to shareholders (available on the official Nintendo), the CEO of the Company of Japan, Satoru Iwata, said that the buttons on the controller are needed to get experience "highly responsive" in video games. "If we consider the table in terms of software development based on the touch screen, I think the device is especially suited to the genre that we created for the Nintendo DS," Iwata said.
"We have never abandoned the Control Pad and buttons for our console because we believe that the development of video games are essential reagents. So I do not think that Nintendo is interested in the tablet from the point of view of video games. For the rest it's cool devices that continue to grow.
" According to rumor, the new Nintendo console, currently referred to as Project Café, could offer a touch screen controller with built-in.
