The boss of the branch of Sony PlayStation, Kaz Hirai, could replace the current CEO Howard Stringer as Sony will leave his post in 2013. Hirai has promoted Stringer to head the consumer business branch of Sony, the branch that includes semiconductors, batteries and other components is instead driven by the main rival Hirai, Hiroshi Yoshioka.
"Together with the Board we talked about issues of succession and we wanted to take this first step. But we have not yet made a final decision," Stringer said during a conference (via Reuters). "This way we can monitor and judge the performance of Hirai. There may be other candidates, but when he is ahead." Hirai will become executive vice president of Sony from April 1.
